What People Are Saying:
“Betty Naegele Gundred brings images into sharp focus as she peers through a poet's lens at the world before her. This collection is a delight for the senses.”  —Judie Rae, Poet, The Weight of Roses and Howling Down the Moon

“In this collection of poetry, Betty Naegele Gundred offers her vision of life, nature, family, loss and joy as though through the lens of camera that sharpens or softens what is viewed according to its opening to light.” Ellen Dooling Reynard, Poet, No Batteries Required

“Reading the poems in Betty Naegele Gundred's Aperture is like looking through a photo album on our favorite porch swing, marveling at the vivid pictures captured on the page that resound with memory and wonder.”  —Julie Valin, Poet, Songs for Ghosts, co-founder, Six Ft. Swells Press

I have been a writer all my life, even through various careers, but it is only recently, after retirement, that I have made it my focus. I remember the adrenaline rush I had when I wrote my first short story in high school, and I feel that same way now. Writing, as well as photography, allows me to synthesize my feelings into words and images. I love the creative process.

My work has appeared or will soon appear in publications such as Current, The Heron’s Nest, Frogpond, Last Leaves, Months to Years, Orchards Poetry Journal, and Open Door Magazine. In addition to poetry, I am currently writing a series of memoir stories. My first chapbook of poetry (Aperture) is scheduled for publication in January 2023.

After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for thirty years, my husband and I now reside in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California where I enjoy Zumba, hiking, and the chatter of birds at my feeder.

My love of writing was a thread that wove its way through various pursuits.
